Dr. Isabelle Morley Champions Caution When Watching Reality TV

If we haven’t learned by now that reality TV is grossly exaggerated and dramatized, it’s kind of our own fault.

I love reality TV as a guilty pleasure as much as the next person! Love Is Blind has been my favorite for a while. I grew up on classics like The Simple Life, Rock of Love, The Real Housewives and Flavor of Love. While I may have questioned them, I didn’t give much thought to what happens on those shows behind the scenes. So, I decided to dig deeper and ask some experts about the subject.

Dr. Isabelle Morley is a licensed clinical psychologist and therapist who has spent some time studying reality TV and its effects on viewers and contestants.

This is her take on the climate of reality TV. We also chat about couples therapy.

It wasn’t until I met season two Love Is Blind contestant Nick Thompson that I learned how truly dark it can get. It was a peak behind the curtain, if you will. Here’s a recap in case you missed it.

Now, Dr. Morley and Nick have teamed up in the form of UCan which advocates for reality stars who have truly been through the wringer while on set.

I hope this encourages you to protect your own mental health while watching these programs and to remember that these stars are human too. Their mental health is effected is like anyone else is.
