If there’s one movie that takes me back to high school within seconds, it’s Metal Lords.
We all remember the bullying, the awkward interactions with romantic interests, and generally, being angry about things. If you’re like me, you probably remember hanging out in a few basements with metal posters everywhere too.
This stellar project is essentially a love letter to metal, while celebrating the awkward phase that is high school. It resonated with me. The cast is made largely of unknowns which, in my opinion, makes the movie better. We don’t have any preconceived perceptions or expectations (other than this being a movie about metal) going into it.
However, this doesn’t mean metal legends are ignored; Tom Morello, Scott Ian, Rob Halford, and Kirk Hammett all make an appearance.
Here’s more of my thoughts…
I appreciated that this one didn’t get too dark or intense. It’s a very cute coming of age story essentially.
Metal Lords is available on Netflix now.
If you saw it, what did you think?
