Why I Joined The Rochester City Music Board

Some of you might know this, and some of you might not.

The news came out pretty recently, but in case you missed it, I’m thrilled to share that I’m joining the City Music Board in Rochester!

The idea started when I noticed a Facebook post in which City Council member Michael Wojcik shared that some positions on city boards were open and needed filled. I look at what was available just for giggles, and saw that the music board was one of the boards with open positions. I sent in what was required, and went on with life.

This January, Mayor Norton requested that we meet and discuss my thoughts on joining the board. I met her soon after. She also explained what the music board looks over.

Her concern, and mine, was a need to showcase diversity in our local arts culture. We want performances that offer something for everyone who lives here. We also want more of Rochester to know what shows are happening, and when. We have a lot more to offer than some know about!

It’s those reasons that made me “toss my name in the hat” in the first place. It breaks my heart when I hear a local say, “there’s nothing ever happening in Rochester!”

There are plenty of amazing shows and performances going on here, boo. You just need to find them. If Facebook isn’t your way of getting information, then I want to present it to you in the way that you consume it.

That’s why I joined this board. Music is a passion of mine, and has been forever. It’s my hope that being part of the City Music Board in Rochester will allow me to help local artists get some exposure, and for the local people to get the information that they need to enjoy them.

There really is something for everyone here. Trust me. Let me know show you that.

Here’s to a music filled 2020!
