3 Songs To Use To Create Your Own Hard Rock Super Bowl Halftime Show

I swear, this isn’t a plea to the Hard Rock Café to sponsor any upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.

I’m just tired of seeing heavy metal and hard rock left out in the cold when it comes to the show. While I’m not complaining about this year’s choice of performances from J.Lo and Shakira, I’ve felt like rock and metal have been missing from the Super Bowl since Aerosmith look the stage in 2001. Don’t shoot the messenger. This is just my opinion.

Think about it; we use hard rock and heavy metal to pump these players up all season long. You hear it between plays. Why would we want that momentum to die? Why would we ignore the effect that this genre of music has on them?

I say that’s a bunch of BS, so now, if you’ll allow me to, let’s create our own hard rock and heavy metal inspired Super Bowl halftime show. If you’re a fan like me, consider creating a playlist like this for that effect.

I think you simply must have the following three songs on deck for this:

  • Foo Fighters – “Best Of You”
  • Ozzy Osbourne – “Crazy Tain”
  • Guns N’ Roses – “Welcome To The Jungle”

If you think about the fact that each Super Bowl halftime show is ten minutes long (give or take), you also have to admit that most rock and metal songs run somewhere around the 3-5 minute mark. It’s pretty rare that they’re any shorter. With this in consideration, you’re probably asking for about three rock or metal songs to make up this show at most. Hell, this may be the very reason why rockers are left out of this show. Those songs just take up some time.

However, this is why I chose the above mentioned songs: I think they inspire and motivate. You’re reflecting and grateful and focusing during “Best Of You,” beginning to unleash the crazy with Ozzy, and then in full kick-ass mode when Gn’R kicks on. What more could you want?

I’m open to opinions here though. What songs would you use to create a hard rock or heavy metal Super Bowl halftime show?
