The Sea-Goat Who Learned That Work Wasn’t Everything

Like goats who insist on climbing to the tallest ridge of a mountain, those of us born under the Capricorn sign of the zodiac are not immune to the voice that tells us to just keep working.

That’s why it’s probably fitting that in mythology, a Capricorn is a sea-goat.

I was born a Capricorn. My actual birthdate is January 10th. If you’re born between December 22nd and January 20th, you’re a Capricorn under the zodiac too.

If you’re familiar with your zodiac sign, and you’re a Capricorn like me, you’ve probably heard the same stereotypes about us; we’re closed-off emotionally until one day we randomly explode (guilty!), extremely efficient (I detest reasoning without logic!), and usually leaders in business (working on it!). Perhaps unfairly, we’re also labeled “boring.” I’m not going to admit to that one!

I actually love the way that Cosmopolitan describes us sea-goats! They mention, “To get an idea of the classic Capricorn personality traits and types, we need only to look to some of the most famous celeb Capricorns: Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, Dolly Parton, Bradley Cooper, Zayn Malik and Liam Hemsworth, to name a few.”

We know those celebrities to be determined and hard-working people. They’re no non-sense types too.

While these traits are admirable, I need to admit that they may have run me into the ground in 2018. You see, that was the year that I was forced to admit that being such a hard worker wasn’t everything. In fact, it was killing my mental health. I was suicidal over conditions at my work environment at the time.

Being a hard worker really meant being a “people pleaser” – and it definitely didn’t mean more money for my family. So, what was the point of being such a hard worker? Well, I guess it was ingrained in me. I always thought I would be rewarded for it. Then, I wasn’t.

I ended up learning that some supervisors just don’t want you to grow, contribute, or (god forbid!) improve and surpass their skills.

I ended up learning that I owed it to my loved ones to take care of myself. They didn’t care about how much money I was earning or what my job title was. They wanted me home and happy.

This Capricorn learned that some things are just more important than a career.

The concept of being connected and closely aligned with a zodiac sign is intriguing and amazing to me. Check out yours, and let me know what your sign is! Does it fit you?

Keep in mind the dates below start with the day and then month.

Remember, it’s your style personified, boo! Life is what you make it.
