Crops tops. The trend we love to hate?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that we do love to hate them, but we don’t have to.
If you’re confident enough to wear a crop top on its own – GO YOU! Seriously! I’m not even at that level yet.
If you’re like me and very wary of them, I feel you completely. The part of my body that I’m most insecure about is definitely my stomach, and they definitely bare your stomach. I’ve put on weight since I’ve started taking anti-depressants – I’ll admit it. It’s my goal to be more active this spring, summer, and fall.
Until I gain a little confidence back, I’m probably staying away from wearing crop tops on their own. However, they’re on trend this season – we can’t escape them! They are everywhere!
So, what’s a girl to do when it seems like crop tops are the only thing your favorite clothing stores are offering? Make them work for you. Here are a few tips that explain what I mean by that…
- Layer them: Let’s be honest – we’re not wearing crop tops to work because for most of us they’re not appropriate for that environment. However, I literally threw a crop top over one of my favorite dresses (pictured above) last week to make my look work appropriate, and re-style it! I created a whole new outfit! Try it.
- Use them as a collared option: This is also layering, but it works. Consider a collared crop top and have fun layering it under your favorite tee or pullover sweater. BAM! More professional in seconds!
- The “cardigan sneak”: What do I mean by this? Throw on your favorite button-up cardigan over your crop top, and simply button it enough to make it look like you’re wearing any top – not a crop top. Hide the midrif to be “work appropriate” or “event appropriate,” if you will. You cardigan became your sneaky new friend!
Don’t fret over the crop top takeover, girl. I got you.
